Here we speak to the founder of the UK's largest nail bar chain, Thea Green MBE - whose brand Nails.INC is featured in the limited edition Female Founders Edit - about her passion for championing female founded businesses, and which nail polish colours we should snap up (though we hope not literally!) for spring/summer...
What is the story behind Nails.INC?
The idea for Nails.INC began when I was travelling back and forth from the US and I spotted a gap in the market for speedy, efficient manicures complete with fashionable high-quality nail polish. Nails.INC was founded, and has been going from strength to strength over the past 20 years. Along the way we’ve collaborated with big names in the fashion industry like Victoria Beckham, as well as well-known brands such as Magnum ice cream.
What three words would you use to describe your brand?
Fashionable, high-quality, and innovative. We’re always determined to bring the best nail products to the market.
What inspired the two shades for this beauty box, Life Is Art and You’re A Glazing?
We created Life Is Art as a neutral base shade to turn your nails into the perfect blank canvas, ready for you to experiment on with any nail art designs you have in mind. You’re A Glazing is inspired by the glaze effect nail trend which became very popular thanks to Hailey Bieber’s ‘glazed doughnut’ nails. We wanted this trend to be accessible for all, which is why we created our own version.
Why did you choose these particular shades for the box?
These two shades are universal for all skin types, which is important for me to showcase in the box as being inclusive is core to what we do as a brand.
How would you advise using these polishes for the best results?
First, ensure nails are fully prepped by filing them and using a base coat such as our Get Hard Base Coat. Our polishes are designed with our patented wide hugging brush for easier application, and both shades are fully pigmented and perfectly opaque after two coats.
What top beauty tip would you give to your younger self?
Less is more! You can always build up layers – whether that be with your make-up or nail polish – but it’s really hard to take it away. Believe me, I’ve definitely learnt from this over the years.
How will you be celebrating International Women’s Day this year?
This year I’ll be at Nails.INC HQ celebrating the day surrounded by my amazing team, built up of 99% women (it would be 100% if it wasn’t for our wonderful male CFO, who we wouldn’t be without).
Why was it important to you to be included in the Female Founders Edit?
It’s important for me to be part of this edit as I’m truly passionate about championing female founded businesses. I’m a proud member of Buy Women Built, which is a movement to showcase brands built by female entrepreneurs, encouraging the space to expand for women in business.
Who is your female role model?
Madonna. Her music is fearless and she’s always pushing boundaries to redefine what it means to be a pop star. She’s an icon in every sense of the word.
What is your number one tip for healthy nails?
Healthy nails start from within. Ensuring you’re eating a balanced diet and drinking enough water will help with your overall nail health. When nails need a little extra love, Nails.INC has a range of treatments to help with any nail concern – my favourite is Glow and Grow as it makes my natural nails shine while promoting nail growth.
What nail trends will we be seeing more of this year?
For spring/summer 2024 we’ll be seeing a lot of apricot and warmer tones of pink on our nails inspired by the desert luxe trend from the catwalks. Silver has continued to be a popular choice as a statement piece in our wardrobe, and it’s now extending to our nails, making them the perfect silver accessory to any outfit.
What’s next for Nails.INC?
I can’t wait for the year ahead! We’ve got some incredible collaborations with worldwide known brands launching, plus some new innovations as well as new shades in our core, best-selling collections.
